The story of the honored French immigrant, Joshua Chauvet, begins with a pursuit of gold during the rush of the 1850s. After seeing a positive return from baking and selling bread to fellow miners, Chauvet set up shop near Sonoma Creek. The proceeds of his baking endeavors lead to the import of a state-of-the-art copper still from France, introducing Brandy to the Bay Area. Stories of his rambunctious Irish wife, Ellen Sullivan, are popularly told due to her fervent pursuits of the drink.
